WEIGHT LOSS OR LIFESTYLE CHANGE?

What’s more important?  Quick weight loss or lifestyle change to lose the weight and maintain it?  The healthiest way is to change your lifestyle.  It’s slow, but it’s sure!  Once you get in that habit, you’re set for life!

START WITH AN APPRECIATION OF YOU

A client of mine who has MS shared with me the impact her attitude had on her lifestyle change. When she first started training with me, she needed to use a cane to walk.  She was discouraged to exercise because she felt she needed to beat herself up and needed to be hurting to be successful at it. She felt angry and let down that her body had MS as she had always been so strong and healthy.  She thanked me for encouraging her to have a gentle and loving approach to her body.  I had encouraged her to listen to what her body was telling her she could or could not do.  She had to learn to start out slow with physical activity, and in spite of a small setback due to surgery, she was consistent and now no longer uses a cane.  She’s not in a hurry to lose all the weight at once. For her it’s not important to look like one of the images of super thin models we see constantly in the media.  For her, it’s about appreciating her body for what it can do and that it is the vessel for her soul.  She’s taking care of herself so she can enjoy her life to the fullest.

Find what inspires you, forgive yourself for whatever got you where you are today, start appreciating yourself and make small but sure changes to get healthy!  When some days get tough, focus on that appreciation, and you will get back on track toward your goal!
